Elftastic

First off, a hilarious link.

Gaming Update!

Well, I got Mass Effect. And I'm so glad I did. It really is a great game. In it, you play the role of Commander Shepard, a human being tasked with hunting down a devious villain, bent on eradicating all organic life from the galaxy. Pretty standard sci-fi storyline in that respect. However, as you delve deeper into the storylines (of which there are MANY!) you begin to uncover various threads that really stand out from the norm. And it is in these threads that you are often tasked with making some pretty serious moral choices. For example, I just completed a mission where a plant-like organism had achieved mind control over a group of colonists on the planet Feros. Upon learning the circumstances I was in, I had to decide whether to kill all the colonists (as they were being forced to try and kill me) or throw some special detoxifying grenades at them in an attempt to cure them. In the end, I tried to cure them, but ended up killing a few along the way. Oops.

Reviews of the game are top-notch, though one of the gripes reviewers have with the game is with the combat. They felt it was too limited, and not much fun. I disagree whole-heartedly with that statement. I love the combat. Combining firepower with biotic powers (kinda like Force powers from Star Wars) that use a physics engine is a great feeling, and every battle feels great. I'm loving every minute so far. I could go on about other aspects of the game that I love, but I'll save that for another time.

In other news, my parents bought me the Wii version of Guitar Hero III as an early birthday present. SWEET! I'd played Guitar Hero II at G-String's house and loved it. So getting GHIII is great. I completed the game on Medium difficulty last night. I haven't done every song yet, and man, the last few are KILLER! My best achievement so far: getting a 567-note streak on "My Name is Jonas" by Weezer. It. Was. Awesome. I'm glad I had witnesses!

Just in the nick of time..

I finished Bioshock last night. Took me about 2 weeks, I think. And it was awesome. When you really think about it, the gameplay in Bioshock doesn't really change very much once you get about an hour into the game. The end game experience is essentially the same as what you were doing when you got your first Plasmid power. Granted, things are a bit more evolved by the end in that you have the ability to use 6 powers instead of 2. But your overall goal is the same - kill anything and everything that moves, hunt for ammo and health, whack a Big Daddy and liberate his bounty. But, that doesn't really detract from the overall experience. The atmosphere of the game is incredible. The voice acting - the best I've ever heard. And 2 crazy freaking plot twists in the middle of the game. BPW said "WHAT!?"

Anyway, it's a good thing I finished Bioshock last night. Because tomorrow, I am getting this:
